Family life has changed dramatically since the 1960s. In our modern pluralistic society almost
everybody knows some friends w
ho represent examples for different forms and sets of family
values which co-exist alongside each other.
Boele-Woelki and Sverdrup (2008) argue convin-
cingly that family law is experiencing in the la
st three or four decades profound and deep social
and demographic changes. The knowledge about and insight into these changes is a
conditio
sine qua non
for the legal comparatist
as well as the legal translator. The aim of this study is to
underpin the necessary comparison of two legal
systems as a prerequisite for an adequate legal
translation.
