SYNAPS - A Journal of Professional Communication 18(2006) pp.5-9Sammendrag
The Norwegian Language Council in January 2005 appointed a group with external members which is to work
in the field of terminology and language for special purposes (LSP). I attempt to give a brief account of the
achievements of the group since then. The Language Council itself is in the process of being reorganized, and in
this connection it has commissioned a thorough study of the present situation of the Norwegian language, a
report of which was presented only two weeks ago. The report at the same time is a strategic document which
amongst other things proposes language policy measures that are conceived necessary in order to protect the
Norwegian language against a powerful Anglo-American language influence in an increasingly internationalized
world. I also give a brief outline of the main features of the aforementioned reorganization and of the contents of
the report as regards terminology and LSP.
