SYNAPS - A Journal of Professional Communication 16(2013) pp.1-6Sammendrag
This article gives a presentation of a one-semester course for interpreters at the University of Bergen. The course
has been financed by the Directorate of Immigration and the target group for the course is interpreters working as
Public Services Interpreters. The course is organized as a part-time study (50%) over two semesters. The
students live all over Norway and therefore the classes are given partly on our e-learning platform, Lingo, and
partly by lectures and workshops in Bergen at weekends. At the website we give lessons on communication and
translation theory, ethics for interpreters and terminology. At the workshops in Bergen the students are trained in
interpretation techniques working in groups with role-plays, and they receive lectures from specialists within for
instant Medicin, Phsycology, Law, Policework and Terminology. During 2003 and 2004 we have admitted 147
students with ten different interpretation languages.
